Virtual Local History Museum

The municipality of Muurame celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021 and wanted to offer its residents an experience of the local history museum digitally. The purpose of the DigiMuurame website is to make the municipality’s services, recreational opportunities, diverse nature and history easily accessible to all residents and other interested people online.

MeKiwi helped the municipality of Muurame to design a digital museum through service design. Based on the plan, MeKiwi built the interactive platform from which DigiMuurame was born. On the site, the user can view several 3D modeled spaces as a 360 environment, most of which are based on real locations in Muurame.

The facilities and content are divided into categories, such as the Children’s Muurame, the Youth Muurame and the Entrepreneurial Muurame, which makes it easy for different user groups to find content that interests them in a user-friendly way. For example, a virtual tourist or local resident can experience the beautiful nature of Muurame through 360 videos, read the history of learning years ago, find the most important library services, and learn and get excited about Muurame in many ways.

MeKiwi was able to leverage several of its expertise, such as AR development, game development, and 3D modeling in content production, as well as combining all of this into an easy-to-use WordPress site what the client can update easily themselves.
